How to Utilize your iPhone 2G/3G As A Modem

As you would know iPhone might be the lamest mobile device considering the present gen phone, but is a miracle mobile device when it comes to surfing the internet! Unfortunately iPhone can’t be used as a modem, which is one of its many short comings, but unless you are smart enough to hack it yourself, just go over this tutorial and make it work for yourself.

Thou iPhone is a breakthrough internet devices, still many users prefer that hard feel of a physical keypad or board and by default we can’t use it as a modem, sores bigtime! To help you utilize that lame data plan your provider is bounding you with, iPhoneModem is here to help you utilizes the iPhone as a modem for a computer.

iPhoneModem will work with all jail broken iPhones 2G and 3G over EDGE and UMTS and Mac OS X 10.5.0 or higher with Mac OS X 10.5.4 recommended. But fellows this one will only work if you are on a MAC, bad luck Windows guys, time to switch over to a Mac.

Installing iPhone Modem on a Mac:

• Download iPhoneModem and copy it to your application folder
• Make sure that the network environment automatic exists
• Start iPhoneModem.app and iPhoneModem Setup.

Setup the iPhone for iPhoneModem:

• Install with Cydia OpenSSH
• Install Insomnia with Cydia
• Install BossPrefs for starting and stopping the SSH server
• Change password for the SSH server

Using iPhoneModem:

1. Click on Start Connection

2. Activate the iPhone’s WLan as soon as you are greated with the message Connect with iPhone WLan..
appears.

3. Start the SSH Server on the iPhone if it is not running already.

4. A message should appear telling you that your iPhone is now connected. Start Insomnia on the Iphone. Happy surfing!

Please note that this are screenshots from the German version, but you’ll get a English version to download. Now only we Windows guys had something to cheer about.
