Yesterday i pointed out my favorite 15 free applications that I use and has helped me improve productivity. Out of those applications, Firefox has stolen my heart. Basically Firefox is the ultimate browser, no offense to Opera users! But you can’t beat us when it comes to extensions. Best of all its free, secure and fast. Thanks to the thousands of great extensions, you can fully customizing your browsing experience.
Here are 15 of my favorite extensions that help me save time while online.
- Ad Block Plus- Kills annoying banners and ads by simply installing the extension. The filter subscription will block most advertisements fully automatically. If it miss some you can right-click on a banner and choose “Adblock” from the context menu, the banner won’t be downloaded again.
- Autocopy - The name pretty much says it all. With autocopy you don’t need to press ctrl + C (cmd+c for Mac OS), just highlight text that you need, it automatically copies it to the clipboard.
- Better Gmail - Better Gmail add some killer features like keyboard macros, saved searches, right-click preview views and integrate Google Reader, to the already awesome Gmail.
- Better GReader - Just like BetterGmail reader, it improves GReader by adding feeds straight to GReader, bypassing the default add page from Google, it also features cool keyboard shortcuts.
- Better GCal - Just like Better Gmail, Greader, it improves GCalendar by adding collapsible header and sidebar, event title text wrap, colored weekend days, week numbers, and skins to Google Calendar. Must have extension for Google Calender Fans.
- Remember the Milk for Gmail - Todo list fans love Remember the Milk. It lets you fully mange your todo items inside of Gmail (complete, postpone, and edit tasks), add new tasks (and connect them with your emails, contacts, and Google Calendar events) and much more.
- del.icio.us bookmarks - Save, search and share your Del.icio.us bookmarks easily inside of Firefox. It replaces the current CTRL+D to bookmark to firefox bookmarks to delicious. I can’t leave without del.icio.us bookmarks, I just can’t.
- urlfixer - Every typed in “google.cob” you’ll be greeted with an error page. Instead of having to perfectly type in every url, urlfixer can usually guess where you’re trying to go. No more lost seconds.
- Dictionary Tooltip - Forgot meaning of a word, maybe a new word! That huge Oxford dictionary is so lame. With Dictionary Tooltip just highlight any word and hit Ctrl + Shift + D to see the word’s definition, without having to open a new window.
- LeechBlock - If you are addictive to certain websites, such as stumble, dig, and other cool websites, use LeechBlock to block you from visiting them within a certain time period of the day. Must have for people who easily get distracted.
- Read it later - If you found an interesting article but don’t have time to read it. This extension lets you to quickly save the page you’re browsing until you’re able to read it. When you get time to read your saved articles, just click on the saved links.
- Shareaholic- Shareholic is the ultimate tool for social media addicts. Digg, del.icio.us, twitter, mixx, you name it. Why I like shareholic, it’s because you don’t need to jump from this service to! which saves me a lot of time.
- Copy Plain Text- When ever you copy text usually the formatting associated with also gets copied. Copy Plain Text on the other hand will leave all the bolds, italics and other unwanted formatting when you copy and paste into text fields.
- Cooliris Previews - This extension shows you a thumbnail of the destination when you hover the mouse over a hyperlink. Very useful extension as you won’t have to head over to useless links, besides that its saves lots of time.
- PDF Download - Usually when you open up PDF files on Firefox, it totally hangs it up. PDF download add-on lets you decide whether you want to download the file, view it in your Firefox window, or view it as HTML.
Phew! Quite a long list. If you think there better extensions for productivity, let me know!
