Saving money is everyone’s dream. Who doesn’t like saving? The easiest and quickest way to start saving money is to curb your spending. It may sound like easy but how many of us really do try to limit our spending. Of course you don’t need stop eating, cut off phone lines, electricity. But few interesting simple things can easily bring back your balance sheet to green. Remember, start saving today to make your future bright.

Eat Out Less: Most of us love to eat out, but eating out seriously lightens your pocket. At an average you’ll atleast gobble up $30-50 an outing, multiply that with your wife, two kids that’s more then $150. If your family goes out atleast twice a week, the annual cost of eating out 52×300$ = $10000+! assuming you go out each week twice. Besides saving money, making your own food can often be healthier too.

Eliminate Expensive Coffee Drinks: If you stopped yourself from buying a $3.50 Latte every day from Starbucks, you would have about $100 a month extra to put into your savings account. Hey why don’t you buy a simple coffee maker and some ground coffee beans and start making your own coffee. Annually you could save more then $6000.

Buy Used or Non-Brand Name Products: While the temptation to purchase the latest product from the top manufacturer on the market can be strong, you can save money by buying used, old un-branded. Refurbished or “Like-New” products are often as reliable and good like the new ones. Also don’t go for a brand name. Just because a top designer’s name is stitched on the dress doesn’t guarantees to be any good to the street alternatives. Don’t go with the hype, use you head!

No Cable TV. Cable TV’s are another way of losing your hard owned cash. Have you ever watched the 500odd channels you subscribed? Cable subscriptions ranges from $65-100/month, HDTV subscription costs even more. Stop seeing TV and save more then $1000 a year.

No magazine or newspaper subscriptions. Stop subscribing to paper delivered magazines and newspapers. Thanks to the Internet, most top magazines and newspapers have online editions were you can read them for free. Annually you can save more then $400.

Have only one car. Fuel prices have gone up considerably past few years. Just few weeks back it hit $100 a barrel. I won’t be surprise if it hits $150-200 in another year. Question is! Why do you need more then two cars? Why do you kids need cars! Get them a cycle instead, if you family is big can’t hold inside a single car; consider getting a van or something similar to that with good fuel efficiency. Perhaps you can save more the $5000 annually by just having a single car.

Quit smoking. Do you smoke a pack a day! That’s easily $5 a day; multiply that to a year. You end up spending $1800 on something that is killing you slowly.

Don’t go to the gym. Instead of spending annually more then $500 on gym, get your ass up in the morning and start jogging, cycling, swimming etc

Eliminate your hobbies. Don’t go to clubs, theater, ballet, and opera. Socializing is good but that doesn’t means you have to see every Broadway, or Major league game of your favorite player, actress.

Learn to say ‘no’. It is always because we can’t say to something spanking new or delicious we end up mixing up our debts. Whenever you buy anything ask yourself 3 times “do I really need this?”

There are hundreds of places where you could end up spending money. Money is something you can’t hold forever, but atleast you can save it for any emergency. It is really easy to save money you only need to not let your mind talk into spending on things which are really unnecessary. Hope you fellows learn to start money and save for the future.

How about not buying Absolut? No, I am not suggesting giving up vodka. Smirnoff was rated top in the NYT taste test.

Ummm… seriously… people with families don’t spend $150 twice a week on meals.

If they do eat out it’s at Pizza Hut or McDonald’s for the kids, and spending $50 per person at McDonald’s would kill you.

Frankly, if you can afford spending 300 bucks only TWICE a week… then you don’t have to worry about saving, because you’re freaking rich.

    How about this:

    2 cheeseburgers: 2.00
    2 kid’s happy meals: 5.00
    2 fries: 1.00
    4 drinks: 3.50

Family of four eats out at a burger joint: $11.50

    Twice a week: 23 bucks.

    times 52 weeks = 1196 bucks.

So yes, not eating out will save you.. but more like $1200 a year.. no $16000.. that’s insane.

“Just say no”? How about some frugal alternatives? Abstinence from life’s pleasures probably isn’t the best recommendation.

    @ Josh

Its just an average that same person may go out to eat just 1 or 2wice a month. I was telling about a great meal, no burger, junk food joint.

    @Owen
Now to start saving you have to say “no” to spending
